6-Day Marrakech to Merzouga Desert Journey
Day 1 – From Marrakech to the Dades Valley
Your adventure begins in the vibrant city of Marrakech, where the magic of Morocco comes alive in every sound and scent. Leaving the bustling medina behind, the road leads you into the majestic High Atlas Mountains, winding through the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Along the way, you’ll visit the breathtaking Kasbah Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Morocco’s most iconic landmarks. Continue through the cinematic landscapes of Ouarzazate and into the Valley of Roses, where the scent of wildflowers fills the air. As the sun sets, you’ll arrive in the stunning Dades Valley, surrounded by its famous rock formations and lush palm groves — a peaceful night awaits in a cozy riad or hotel.
Day 2 – Dades Valley to the Sahara Desert (Night in Camp)
After breakfast, your journey continues deeper into Morocco’s south. Pass through Tinghir and admire the breathtaking Todgha Gorges, where cliffs rise dramatically on both sides. The road then opens into the wide desert plains leading to Erfoud and finally to Merzouga, where the golden dunes of the Erg Chebbi stretch endlessly toward the horizon. Here, your camel caravan awaits to guide you through the dunes as the sun paints the sky in shades of orange and red. Arrive at your luxury desert camp, enjoy mint tea, and watch the stars appear one by one above the silent Sahara. After dinner, Berber drums fill the night air — a truly unforgettable evening under the desert sky.
Day 3 – Sahara to Rissani and Back (Night in Camp)
Wake early to witness a magical sunrise over the dunes, a moment of serenity you’ll never forget. After breakfast, set out to explore the nearby Rissani, the ancient capital of the Tafilalt region and gateway to the desert. Wander through its traditional souk, where traders sell spices, crafts, and dates — just as caravans once did centuries ago. Return to the desert for another tranquil evening in your camp, where you can climb the dunes, enjoy Berber music, or simply lie back and watch the stars twinkle above the silence of the Sahara.
Day 4 – Merzouga, Rissani, and the Sahara
This day is all about discovery. Explore the desert region around Merzouga, visiting Khamlia village to experience traditional Gnawa music, meet nomadic families who live between the dunes, and discover ancient fossils hidden in the desert stones. You can take a short 4x4 excursion across the dunes or relax and enjoy the calm beauty of the Sahara. In the evening, return to your accommodation for a warm dinner and peaceful rest surrounded by sand, stars, and silence.
Day 5 – From Merzouga to Ouarzazate
After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to the dunes. The journey back begins through Erfoud and along the Draa Valley, where endless palm groves and ancient kasbahs line the way. The scenery changes from golden sands to rugged mountains as you make your way to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa.” Here, you can visit the famous film studios or the grand Kasbah Taourirt. Spend the night in a comfortable riad or hotel, reflecting on the incredible landscapes you’ve crossed.
Day 6 – Ouarzazate to Marrakech
Your final day takes you once more across the High Atlas Mountains, where winding roads and panoramic views create a perfect farewell to southern Morocco. Small Berber villages and mountain valleys accompany you back toward Marrakech, where the adventure began. As you arrive in the city, carrying sand still in your shoes and memories written in your heart, you’ll know you’ve truly lived the spirit of Morocco — from the peaks of the Atlas to the silence of the Sahara.
